ABout About The Fraternitas Lodge

The Fraternitas Lodge No. 6046 is a friendly and welcoming Masonic Lodge meeting at the Wigmore Masonic Centre in Rainham, Medway.

Established in 1945, shortly after the Second World War, the Lodge was founded by men who wished to preserve the strong bonds of friendship they had formed during that time. Those same principles of friendship, support and mutual respect continue to shape the Lodge today.

Our membership reflects a wide range of backgrounds, professions and experiences, creating a diverse and inclusive environment where all members are valued. With an age range spanning from younger members through to those with many years of experience, the Lodge maintains a balanced and active membership.

We meet seven times a year on Saturday afternoons, offering a structure that suits modern working life while still preserving the traditions of Freemasonry. Each meeting is followed by a relaxed and sociable festive board, where members can enjoy each other’s company and strengthen the friendships that are at the heart of the Lodge.

Partners and families are encouraged to be part of our wider social activities, helping to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere beyond the Lodge room itself.

Freemasonry at Wigmore

The Fraternitas Lodge meets at the Wigmore Masonic Centre, located at the Howard Memorial Hall in Rainham, Medway.

The Centre is home to a number of Masonic Lodges and provides a well-established and welcoming environment for Freemasonry in the local area. It plays an important role within the Medway community, not only as a meeting place for Lodges, but also as a venue that supports charitable activity and social events.

Being part of the Wigmore Masonic Centre allows members of The Fraternitas Lodge to connect with a wider Masonic community, offering opportunities to visit other Lodges, take part in shared events, and build friendships beyond their own Lodge.

Conveniently located in Rainham, the Centre is easily accessible from across Medway, including Gillingham, Chatham and Rochester, as well as the surrounding areas of Kent.

If you are local to the area, you may be closer to Freemasonry than you think.

Our Core Values

Freemasonry is built upon four enduring values, which are reflected in everything we do at The Fraternitas Lodge.

Integrity

We strive to act with honesty, fairness and consistency in all aspects of our lives, both within the Lodge and beyond.

Friendship

Friendship is at the heart of The Fraternitas Lodge. We foster a supportive and welcoming environment where lasting relationships can be formed and enjoyed.

Respect

We value the opinions, beliefs and backgrounds of others, treating everyone with consideration and understanding.

Service

We are committed to supporting charitable causes and contributing positively to our local community and wider society.

These values are not simply words, they are principles that guide how we conduct ourselves and how we support one another as members of the Lodge.

The Masonic Province of East Kent

The Fraternitas Lodge forms part of the Masonic Province of East Kent, one of the many Provinces that make up Freemasonry in England and Wales under the United Grand Lodge of England.

The Province brings together Lodges from across East Kent, providing support, structure and opportunities for members to engage more widely in Freemasonry beyond their own Lodge.

For members of The Fraternitas Lodge, this connection offers the chance to:

    • visit other Lodges across the Province
    • take part in wider events and initiatives
    • support charitable work on a larger scale

While our Lodge maintains its own identity and traditions, being part of the Province of East Kent strengthens our connection to the wider Masonic community.

An Introduction to the History of Freemasonry

Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest social and charitable organisations, with a long history rooted in tradition, personal development and mutual support.

At its core, Freemasonry brings people together to:

    • build strong and lasting friendships
    • support charitable causes
    • develop confidence and life skills
    • contribute positively to society

While Freemasonry is often associated with tradition and symbolism, the experience of being a Freemason today is centred around people, friendship, and shared values.

At The Fraternitas Lodge, we aim to make Freemasonry approachable and accessible. Many of our members joined knowing very little about it, and quickly found themselves part of a welcoming and supportive community.

If you are curious, the best way to understand Freemasonry is simply to ask and start a conversation.

Why Become a Freemason?

People join Freemasonry for many different reasons, but at its heart, it is about connection, personal growth, and being part of something meaningful.

For many members of The Fraternitas Lodge, it offers:

    • the opportunity to make new and lasting friendships
    • a sense of belonging within a supportive community
    • the chance to contribute to charitable causes
    • a way to develop confidence, communication and life skills

Freemasonry is not about background or status, it is about the individual. What matters most is a willingness to take part, to support others, and to enjoy the experience.

At The Fraternitas Lodge, we aim to provide a friendly and inclusive environment where members can feel comfortable from the outset. Whether you are new to the area, looking to meet new people, or simply curious about Freemasonry, you will be made welcome.

Many of our members began their journey with a simple enquiry, just like you may be considering now.

If you would like to find out more, we encourage you to simply get in touch, there is no pressure, just a conversation.

We welcome enquiries from across Rainham, Medway and Kent.

our mission statement

We are a unique members’ organisation that has thrived for over 300 years. Having no political or religious affiliations, we comprise members of all ages, races, religions, cultures and backgrounds. We meet in our individual Lodges throughout the country where we have ceremonial traditions which encourage us both to be more tolerant and respectful and actively to fulfil our civic and charitable responsibilities; we also make time to eat, drink and meet together, and form lifelong friendships.

To attract those from all backgrounds and walks of life, enabling them to develop into more thoughtful and confident people. To inspire and challenge them to practise the core values we celebrate – Integrity, Friendship, Respect, Service– in their private and public lives. To cement our reputation as a force for good in our communities and society at large and as a thriving organisation that people aspire to join.

Over the next 7 years, we will enhance our reputation as a thriving organisation that people aspire to join and broaden our membership across all age groups.
